Diana was raised here locally in Santa Maria. She has always had a love for the medical field. Her career in physical therapy began in 1991 when she began working as an aide in a local clinic. A couple years later she attended Santa Barbara School of Massage. During the months to come she was toying with the idea of becoming an elementary school teacher or staying in the field of physical therapy. A short time later opportunity presented itself at the Professional Skills Institute, a private physical therapy assistant college in Santa Barbara, CA. She realized that physical therapy brought her joy and satisfaction and decided to attend P.S.I. Diana graduated from P.S.I. with an A.S. in Physical Therapy in September 1996. She feels fortunate to have found employment with San Luis Sports Therapy in May 2003. She enjoys traveling, and visiting with her family and friends. She and her husband, Randy, just welcomed Randy Jr. into the world this past June.

Michael P. Smith graduated with his B.S. in Biology from Fairfield University and subsequently pursued study in the areas of breast and ovarian cancer research where he was twice awarded Edmundson Fellowships for research at the USC Norris Cancer institute.
Desiring to bring his health care experience to a field with greater patient interaction, he entered the USC School of Physical Therapy. There he graduated with the first entry level class offering the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree on the West Coast. Michael’s primary area of study and practice since graduation has been orthopedics and hand rehabilitation including internships at Yale, City of Hope, Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles, and private practice at the Ventura Hand Center until May 2004. He is a board certified specialist in Hand Therapy and the first and only Hand Specialist between Thousand Oaks and San Francisco with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
On a personal level, having suffered a broken hand while in PT school, Michael brings his own experience with surgery and hand therapy to bear in the clinic. He is also the founder and director of the Hand Therapy Department here at San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation. The majority of his time is spent not only treating patients, but also as a mentor/instructor for staff therapists and interns studying for the Board Exams for the Hand Therapy Specialty. In order to maximize his patients’ outcomes, he also regularly attends surgeries to observe the latest and varying techniques used by surgeons today to maintain close and clear communication with the physicians whose patients he treats.
