Athletic Training

Answering the call for adequate medical care for high school athletes, San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation is proud to work with our local schools. Our certified athletic trainers provide prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, in cooperation with team physicians at:

Personal Profile
Stacey Jensen Ritter, MS, ATC is Director of Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Services, overseeing the high school outreach program. After completing her degrees, she served as Associate Director of Athletic Training, and Department of Sports Sciences instructor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. She has worked with Olympians, professional athletes and NCAA champions, and has been on several international playing tours with athletic teams. After several years as a university athletic trainer, Stacey moved to the high school setting, and found a true mission in bringing the highest standard of athletic health care to young competitors. Areas of special interest include psychology of injury, the adolescent athlete experience, and substance abuse education. Stacey also finds time to serve on boards and committees that advance and serve the role of high school athletic trainers. Stacey loves to draw, paint and cook. Her husband, Chris, is also an athletic trainer, and they enjoy traveling, hiking, and training for a local race or triathlon from time to time.

Personal Profile
Julie is the head athletic trainer for Galt High school located just south of Sacramento. She has a bachelors degree in biology with a physiology emphasis and a masters degree in exercise science. Julie was certified in athletic training in 2003 and is also a certified strength and conditioning coach. As a former 3-sport high school athlete, NCAA champion and both high school and collegiate rowing coach, Julie brings the experience of being athlete, coach and athletic trainer with active populations in many sports and levels of experience. She has athletic training experience in high school, junior college, and all NCAA divisions and loves working with people passionate about active lifestyles. She particularly loves the fact that she is surrounded by smiles and laughter almost every day. In her spare time, Julie loves getting out on the water for a row, exploring new outdoor places, and catching up with friends. Julie currently resides in downtown Sacramento.

Katie is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Morro Bay High School and also works as a PT Aide for the Morro Bay clinic. Katie started her athletic training education at Ohio Northern University in 2000 working with various sports throughout the four years. She was an athletic training student for Division III Wrestling Championships, as well as the Division III Indoor Track and Field championships. In 2004, Katie went to University of South Carolina to pursue her master’s degree. She worked as a Physician Extender in the USC Sports Medicine Center during the first year and during the second year, was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Women’s Soccer and Softball.

Todd Olivera is the Head Athletic Trainer at Paso Robles High School were he also teaches full-time in the Regional Occupational Program (ROP). A position he has served in for seven years. Todd’s background stems from service in the United States Coast Guard as well as from his background as an EMT working for EMS services early in his adult life. Todd enjoys all types of sports. He enjoys fishing, and other outdoor activities. In his free time, he loves to run and exercise. He enjoys relaxing and spending time with family and friends.

Personal Profile
Amanda Snyder, ATC learned the majority of her athletic training skills at Azusa Pacific University. There she was able to work with football, women’s soccer, softball, baseball, men’s and women’s tennis and track and field. She was able to attend national championships with both the women’ soccer team and the track and field teams. After being able to complete a clinical rotation at Diamond Bar high school under Stacey Camou, Amanda learned that the high school setting was where she wanted to work.

She continued on to University of La Verne as a graduate assistant and received her secondary teaching credential and is in the process of finishing her master’s of education. She also worked very closely with the women’s soccer team and basketball teams as an athletic trainer.

While not working in the high school Amanda loves being outdoors, hiking, swimming, camping, walking, playing around… you name it! She especially loves the ocean and feels so blessed to be able to live in San Luis Obispo!

Personal Profile
Haley is the Certified Athletic Trainer for San Luis Obispo High School. She is responsible for providing care at all practices, home events, as well as away trips with the football team. Her duties include recognition, evaluation, treatment and referral of athletic injuries. She also teaches the ROP Introduction to Sports Medicine class at the high school where she prepares her students to further pursue a wide variety of health care professions. In the mornings, Haley works at Sinsheimer pool as a physical therapy aide, helping our patients progress through their rehabilitation in the water. In her spare time, Haley loves to be active in almost any capacity. She is most fond of the outdoors, sunshine and her precious cat. Convinced she was a full-bred Californian in a previous life, Haley is determined to discover everything the west coast has to offer.

Personal Profile
Shelby LaMendola, ATC was an athletic training intern for three years at UC Davis while completing her BA in Psychology. At UCD, she worked directly with Men’s Tennis, Football, Women’s Soccer and Gymnastics. Upon graduation, she returned to her native Tuolumne County and was an athletic training assistant at Sonora High School. This experience helped her realize that the high school setting was where she wanted her career to be.

Shelby went on to complete a BS in Athletic Training at Fresno State, during which time she had the opportunity to work with each of the Division I teams. 2007 saw her traveling with the football team to the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl, and in spring of 2008, was assigned to the baseball team. She was first-hand witness to the “Underdogs to Wonderdogs” phenomenon, traveling with the team through post season play, and all the way to the College World Series, and the National Championship. She describes it as “the experience of a lifetime, both personally and professionally.”

Shelby is excited to join the San Luis Sports Therapy team of athletic trainers, and is looking forward to settling in to the Templeton High School community. Go Eagles!
